Teens And STD's Today.

Did you know that 15 million Americans become newly infected with an STD each year? Most of these Americans are only 15 to 19 years of age. In the year of 2002 the number of syphilis cases in the U.S. was 32,871, Chlamydia cases was 834,555, and gonorrhea cases was 351,852 (CDC, 2005).

 In 1997, fifteen cities share the leading reported rates in the nation of both STDs (syphilis and gonorrhea).

  • Parental involvement might reduce teenagers from getting sexually transmitted diseases, according to the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland and the University of California School of Medicine in San Francisco

Teen contraceptive use has improved in many different ways in teenage boys and girls, according to a new study released by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Between the years of 1995 to 2002 sexual activity had also decreased in young teen boys and girls. This study is from National Survey of Family Growth in the year of 2002.
